Meet the Artist

Hello, I am Jane Butckovitz, the artist/owner of Way Back Tiles. I grew up in South Carolina and lived in Charlotte, NC for 30 years.  As a child I came to the North Carolina mountains for summer camp and winter skiing.  I always knew I wanted to live in the mountains someday, and now I do!  We were able to find some property outside of Asheville, NC in 2000 and moved here in 2007.  I had been making custom tiles in my garage while we lived in Charlotte, happily I have a studio and kiln installed here so that I can have a tile business.

I have a BFA from Syracuse University, and an MA in Art Education from Appalachian Sate in Boone, NC.  I taught Art in Charlotte, NC for 23 years, in middle and high school and also part time at UNC- Charlotte.  When I retired I was a National Board Certified Teacher.  

My tile images come from plants I know and love in my garden and the woods around the house.
